We have an exciting announcement to make… drum-roll please… Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule! has “gone cardboard” (and tin)! Game-O-Gami’s very first game is now released and available world-wide. If you haven’t gotten yourself a copy of your own yet, you can order it online or ask for it at your friendly local game store. This marks a huge milestone for myself, for Game-O-Gami, and hopefully for happy families who are getting to play GDFR together! Official press release below.

For Immediate Release

July 17, 2013; Las Vegas, NV

Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule!, the card game of rhyme and reason for kids of all ages, has gone from Kickstarter dream to retail reality. Developed by Game-O-Gami with publisher support from Game Salute, this charming and educational family game was successfully crowd-funded last year and is now available world-wide.

In Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule!, players put their rhyming and puzzle solving skills to the test as they compete to rid themselves of mischievous goblins and collect magical fairies. The game features innovative play mechanics by game industry veteran David Sanhueza, and beautiful illustrations by comic book artist Mike Maihack. GDFR is the culmination of David’s dream to create a game that children and adults can enjoy playing together.

The rulebook sets the appropriately whimsical mood by describing the setting, “For a long, long time, goblins and fairies have lived in a magical world right beneath our noses. If you look hard enough, you can find rings of mushrooms, called ‘fairy rings,’ which act as doors between their world and ours. Today, a gang of mischievous goblins escaped from the fairy ring, and it is up to you to send them back before they cause trouble! But an ancient spell of rhymes which transforms goblins into fairies and fairies into goblins makes this a trickier task than you might think…”

Gamers curious about Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule! will be able to try-before-they-buy at the Gen Con Indy games convention. Gen Con, “the best four days in gaming”, will be held at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, Indiana, from August 15-18. Players can participate in demos of GDFR at the Game Salute booth in the exhibit hall.

Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule! is now available directly from shop.GameSalute.com, Amazon.com, and your friendly local game store. More information about the game, including samples of the artwork, can be found on Game-O-Gami’s website: www.game-o-gami.com

Good news everybody,

Production of Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule! is complete. All 5,000 copies are right now on a big boat headed to America!

According to steamship lines tracking, the vessel is due to arrive in New York on April 19th. An additional week is expected to unload, clear, and truck the crates to Game Salute‘s HQ in New Hampshire. Assuming the ship arrives in NY on time, and Customs checks go smoothly, Game Salute should have them in their warehouse, ready for order fulfillment, by the end of April. Good times!

Dear Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule! fans,

When we ran our Kickstarter campaign to fund the production of GDFR! earlier this year, many of our supporters backed the project not just for themselves, but also to have a fun gift to give to friends and loved ones. Therefore, we have put together a holiday card for all those lucky people who will be getting a copy of the game early next year. Whether you were a backer on Kickstarter, or have pre-ordered the game from Game Salute, this card will let the special people in your life know what they have coming thanks to you!
Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule! - holiday card

Just print it out at home, fold it, write whatever note you want to, then slip it into the mail or into Christmas stockings hung over the chimney with care… To assemble the card, just fold the top half down along the horizontal line, to line up with the bottom half on the other side. Then fold again along the vertical line, to create the closed card. The fairy should be on the front of the finished card.

Of course, the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear. But this has got to come in at a close second… Enjoy!

"Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule!' by David Luis Sanhueza

We did it. Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule! met its funding goal and then some, because we picked the right partners: you. So much work and love have gone into this game. So much preparation for the campaign on Kickstarter, and so much diligence to keep it going. Hard work and loving attention are the basis of any worthwhile creative project. But for GDFR! to reach its full potential, it also needed a community of passionate believers who wanted it to exist. Thank you for being a part of our winning formula: Us + You = Win!

I would also like to extend my personal thanks to the team that made this project stand out from the crowd. To Chris and Cherilyn Kirkman for their effort and creativity in putting together the videos and the reward graphics, and for all their awesome advice. To Dan Yarrington for running a very smooth campaign, being the man with the answers, and for always pushing for top quality. And to Mike Maihack for making sure that the people who love his art would know exactly where they could get more of it. Also thanks to everyone who took the time to play the demo copies or print-and-play copies of GDFR! and write or record such amazing reviews.

Now that the mushy stuff is past us, here is some info about the project moving forward. The estimated delivery date for the game and rewards is December. If the production process goes extremely well, we might even be able to get them out before then. But even if we encounter a few hiccups that are common and inevitable in a first print run, our intention is to get your rewards to you before Christmas. The estimated delivery date for the Digital Rewards Bundle is August. This includes The Art of Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule! book in PDF format, as well as a mass of desktop wallpapers for various screen sizes (including iPhone and Android), featuring artwork from the game. When the Bundle is ready, our Kickstarter backers will receive a message with instructions how to download it.

If you missed the Kickstarter campaign, or know other folks who did, fear not! You can pre-order Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule! products from Game Salute. This includes the card game, the double-sided puzzle, and the art book, in any combination you choose. The Kickstarter campaign has completed, but the game development continues. We will be adding more updates over the next few months, including:

Team Goblin desktop wallpaper
Fan Page bundle
Updated rulebook with new game modes, a poem, and credits
Photos of the game and other rewards when we get them from the printers
…and more!

So please stay tuned to find out more about Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule! and other upcoming GAME-O-GAMI games. Thank you for making this all possible! Sincerely,

– David

"Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule!" by David Luis Sanhueza

First, a BIG thank you to everyone who has helped us move closer to our next funding goal, and to all the loyal supporters who have been promoting our cause however they can. We want to deliver this game to you at the highest possible quality we can, and that goal looks more and more attainable each day.

Second, we’ve been hearing a lot of buzz about Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule! – from our play-testers, the gaming press, and around the ‘net. Here is a sample of the positive vibes that parents and gamers like you have been sending our way:

“It can actually be a very intense game, as you’re sitting there trying to figure out which cards to get rid of. I like the fact that it’s so small and portable, and yet packs a pretty powerful punch.” – Tom Vasel, The Dice Tower

“I really like the idea. A mechanic that uses rhyming, with charming images is… rather charming.” – Liam Coutts

“As a father of four precocious and incurably imaginative girls and the son of a retired elementary school teacher, I cannot overstate the relevance and importance of projects like this. Game designers, like so many others in creative fields, have a unique opportunity to spark young minds, and it’s delightful to see Mr. Sanhueza bend his talents toward this noble pursuit.” – J. Herschel Jeffrey

“I had the opportunity to playtest Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule! with four adult strategy gamers… it took about 30 seconds for them to be giggling like little girls. We played four games in a row and we’re eager to see the game when all of the art is complete.” – David MacKenzie, Clever Mojo Games

“This sounds amazing! I adore Mike’s art and I love playing games with my 8yo daughter who’s a big fan of fairies. Sign me up!” – Charles Sumner

“I cannot wait for this game! LOVE the art, and even more the concept/mechanics — as an elementary school teacher, this game seems ideal.” – gbreden

“As someone who is an avid gamer but married to someone who is not, I appreciate games that are light enough to appeal to my wife but have enough underneath to keep me interested. The simplicity of the rules and beautiful artwork draws in those who are not heavy gamers but underneath is an intriguing mind puzzle for the serious gamer. Throw in the educational value for my little girl and you have a game that has something for the whole family.” – Richard Sandberg

“It was obvious that the fairies appealed to my daughter. She was happy when she got another one and always tried not to lose them. Its a nice game, I like its simplicity and elegant mechanics.” – Greg Hjelstrom

“One of my favorite aspects of this game is the beautiful artwork which appeals to both boys and girls. The fanciful names add even more to the fun.”American Geek Mom

“This one is a fun game for kids (particularly those who like fairies and/or goblins), but it has some fun memory-based mechanics that can make it a good short game for adults as well. And if you love games with great illustrations, you should definitely check this out.” – Jonathan H. Liu, Wired GeekDad

“Wowed. That’s what I was… wowed. I sat down to play a rhyming game with cutesy art with the kids, and I ended up playing a reasonably in-depth strategy game.” – Randy Newnham, Growing Up Gamers

Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule! when it is at its best is like a good Pixar movie… The rhyming feature is just such a great gameplay aspect that I can just not praise enough. This is edu-tainment that adults can enjoy too.” – Ryan and Amanda Moses, He says, She says

GDFR does a great job of satisfying both our inner children and our inner gamers. Aside from the gameplay, the game is almost worth its price alone as an art piece.” – Chris Kirkman, Dice Hate Me

You can try the game out for yourself with this FREE Print-and-Play Edition. The download includes the full game using sample art, resized to fit standard playing cards, and contains the latest version of the rulebook. Enjoy!

For a quick look at how the game is played, watch this video recorded by Chris and Cherilyn Kirkman from Game Salute:

We’d love to hear YOUR feedback too. If you have taken the time to assemble the print-and-play version and play GDFR! yourself, or if you are simply a fan of the art and game concept, your perspective is important. Thank you!

– David
